The Radical Changes of Mobile Phones

By: Phillip Greene-46524

There are few areas over the past generation that have undergone more radical changes then in the growth and development of mobile phones. It is truly remarkable the changes in the mobile phone, even over the past few years. It was in 1983 that the first widely available mobile phone was available. It was Motorola DynaTAC 8000X, and few people, especially younger people, have ever heard of the phone. In the 1980's, mobile phones had to be installed in the car, which limited the effectiveness of the phone. The first generation of mobile phones were analog, and were much less effective than mobile phones are today.

The original mobile phones were much larger, had limited features, and were not as handy, as current mobile phones are. The second generation of mobile phones were first used in Europe in the early 1990's. These mobile phones were digital, had more features, and enhanced security. In addition, the phones began to slowly shrink in size, although not of the size that most people are used to today. Later in the 1990's some mobile phones began to use and feature text messaging, caller id, and continue to shrink the size of the mobile phone. The 3rd generation of mobile phones were first introduced in Japan in 2001, which was a major upgrade from the second generation in several ways. Some enhanced features of a 3rd generation mobile phone include wireless Internet on a mobile phone, the ability to make video calls, and the significant shrinking of the mobile phone. Cameras began to be built in to some mobile phones, which allowed people to take pictures in order to store them on their phone. In addition, the pictures on the phone can be taken and e-mailed to a person, which in turn can be posted into the Internet.

Recent mobile phones such as the IPhone and the Blackberry are taking the mobile phone to the next level. Some people refer to these devices such as smart phones. These devices are capable of doing so much more than just making and receiving calls. These devices allow for easy access to the Internet, the ability to view videos, and listen to music.
