The ten largest hospitals in California are given below.USC Medical Center (also known as County USC) is one of the largest hospitals in California. It has 800 beds, serving and providing a full range of emergency, inpatient and outpatient services. Obstetrical, gynecological, pediatric and specialized neonatal intensive care services are provided to women and children while adults and adolescents are entitled to psychiatric services. As a matter of fact in 2005, it served 28% trauma patients. Health workers from The Keck School of Medicine of USC staff it.

Cedars Sinai is another large hospital with 1,004 beds, employs 2000 plus physicians and 9000 employees. U.S. News & World Report Ranking has awarded it the "Best of the Best" Honor Roll, in categories of: digestive disorders, endocrinology, geriatrics and many others.

In 1945, Sidney Garfield, M.D., and Henry J. Kaiser founded Kaiser Permanente Medical Center. It is the nation’s largest nonprofit health plan, catering to San Diego area. It has 446 hospital beds and 20 outpatient medical facilities. It employs 6,500-person staff and 830 physicians. The founders remained faithful to their vision of providing convenient, affordable service dedicated to the health and well-being of people.

Palomar Pomerado Health or PPH located Escondido, was named in 2006 as San Diego’s best place to work by San Diego Magazine. It is the largest hospital district in San Diego, serving 850 square miles. US News & World Report recognized it as an outstanding cardiac care facility and it received a Medal of Honor for commitment to organ donations. It provides wide range of health services in its two hospitals with 319 beds and a trauma center.

Children’s Hospital Central California occupies 50 acres in land area and employs over 450 physicians. It is the second largest children’s hospital in the state with 297 beds. It is the first pediatric hospital to be awarded the Magnet Nursing designation. It executes over 9,000 pediatric surgeries every year and serves 60,000 square-mile regions of San Joaquin Valley, Sierra Nevada Mountains and Central Coast. Five visionary nurses started it in 1952.

Community Hospital of Los Gatos is one of the state’s largest hospital systems. It was founded in 1962 to meet the increasing health service demands of the community. It employs more than 900 employees and 600 physicians and health workers. It has 143 hospital beds divided into the following departments or services: women’s cancer center, rehabilitation center, family birth place, physical performance institute, joint care program, spine center, silicon valley urology hospital, and Parkinson’s and mobility disorders program.

Desert Valley Hospital is an 83 bed hospital located in High Desert, California. It was founded in 1985 and continues to provide healthcare services to High Desert community.
Scripps Mercy is the oldest hospital in San Diego. It served more than 50,000 ER patients and 2,200 trauma patients in 2005 making it the busiest hospital during that year. It was founded in 1890 by Sisters of Mercy; it’s bound to provide service for San Diego and Chula Vista communities. It has 700 licensed beds and 1300 physicians.

Long Beach Memorial is a non-government hospital which has received citations like the finest US breast centers (Self Magazine), one of the top ten cardiovascular surgery centers (Modern Maturity), a quality center for obstetric attention (Fit Pregnancy), and the top ten excellent centers to survive a heart attack.

Rancho Los Amigos Medical Center in Downey, California focuses on neurology, pain management and neuro-rehabilitation. U.S. News & World Report recognized this hospital as one of "America's Best Hospitals 2007" for Rehabilitation.
