Regardless, the number one way of becoming proficient in a language is to emerge yourself in the culture where it is spoken. A short stay may not be enough. If you are a student consider a semester abroad. Or an extended vacation. Be sure to speak to the locals and avoid at all cost your native language. You will struggle and be lost in the beginning, but it really will make a difference in the long run. You can learn any language you want - it all depends of how much effort you are willing to make. Just imagining all the job opportunities, good vacations and summer romances you will open the way to and I guarantee you will get there.
