Haven't we all heard that silly expression? The saying isn't that silly and actually has some interesting history behind it. There was an intelligent person who lived in a far away country who got this wild idea one day during the warm weather to stick socks on their feet instead of their ears.

Really, can you fancy somebody thinking socks should go on the feet instead of the hands; I mean what were they thinking? However, suffice it to say that this person had a lightening bolt strike them with that idea and they got to work and made a whole line of socks for the feet.

Wow, wearing socks on your feet. The change from wearing socks on the head to the feet really created a whole new and exciting era in history. Let's stop kidding for a minute. The whole idea of wearing socks on the feet in the first place had to do with the bright idea of keeping the feet protected and keeping them clean as well.

The "socks on the feet" creator sure hit a gold mine when they started that particular fashion trend; still with us in the 21st century, and most definitely it will carry on into the future. You have to remember that socks are the quintessential nod to the fashion world of today offering choices we'd never have had at one time and wouldn't even have thought of if it weren't for that smart dude inventing them.

What on earth would any of us do if we did not have socks to wear on our feet to keep our shoes and boots from giving us blisters? If not socks, then what would we be wearing?

People used to actually wear some pretty outlandish material on their feet to keep them protected. Every idea we've discussed is a good one, but they all do wear out over time. This isn't to say that you don't walk a lot of miles in socks and they don't wear out, because they do - that is unless your dog chews holes in them before the natural end of their sock lives. What's an alternative to socks? We'd likely have some close fitting rubber form fitted thing with buttons. Lousy idea for a good sense of fashion.
