Manchester is a city in the north west of britain. It was granted city status in 1853 and now has an impressive population of 452,000. Manchester is the 3rd largest conurbation in england and it's also the 3rd most popular city for foreign tourists to visit.

Manchester came to prominence in the nineteeth century, when it was at the middle of the industrial revolution. The city was perfect for the textile trade because it was rather humid, as well as a competent supply of soft water. The city's rivers also provided water power that powered the machinery in the mills. the ready supply of coal & the transportation system of railways & roads also helped it become an industrial centre. for this reason, countless mills started to spring up throughout the city.
