By: Jacy Brigo

The good news if you're looking to buy a used canoe is that modern
canoes and kayaks are made from extremely ware resistant tuff and
durable materials. Amongst the most popular materials in modern canoe
manufacture is the Plastic Roto-Molded Canoe, a process where by plastic
beads are injected into a heated and rotating
mold before being cooled. Plastic Canoes are made from extremely durable
polyurethane plastics and should if looked after last indefinitely. They
are also due to their mass production amongst the cheapest of canoes and
make an excellent choice for any prospective buyer who is looking at the
second hand canoes and used canoes
And kayaks market. If buying a used canoe you should at least check the
hull for gouges and dents and of course any holes it is also worth
checking around the gunwales for damage to where a canoe spray deck may
be fitted.
Other modern materials for Canoes and Kayaks production include
Fibreglass which is heavier than plastic canoes and has become less
common with t5he introduction of many more plastic canoes on the market.
The same rules apply with glass fibre canoes check for obvious damage
and never buy a used canoe or kayak without first having at least
inspected it in person.
Used Wooden canoes are generally made from hard words that has been
seasoned and as such are again very robust, however if your looking at a
used wooden canoe you should check the woodwork thoroughly for signs of
damage and decay, a well maintained wood canoe of age should have been
re varnished to maintain water tightness waterproofing of the wood and
prolong life of the wooden hull.
Aluminium canoes are light are extremely durable but it is worth
checking any fittings which may possibly be steel and liable to
corrosion.
Newer canoes are now being built from extremely tuff carbon and Kevlar
composites offering the canoeist both light weight and extreme
durability. Carbon and Kevlar canoes are likely to not be the cheapest
and are in limited supply
On the used canoes market. However the same old rules apply, you should
always inspect a used canoe in person before purchase. Many canoe and
kayak stores will stock a number of used canoe and kayak models, these
may have been sold direct to the shop or traded in part exchange for a
new model You will find you pay a little more for a used canoe or kayak
through a recognised dealer but on the upside you are likely to get a
limited warranty and be covered by trading standards

vital you seek some expert tuition before taking to the water. There are
now many online canoe stores and forums where great deals can be picked
