Affiliate Marketing Basics

One of the fastest growing ways to make some quick cash on the internet is through affiliate marketing. Its popularity is soaring because it can help people make money on the side or even help pull in a full time income if a person is dedicated enough to it. Forget the people that are telling you its too hard to get started if you don't know such and such programming languages or how to design a perfect web layout! I'm going to give you the low down on how you too can get into affiliate marketing, even if you don't know where to start.
As intimidating as it may seem at first, the term affiliate marketing is not the big bad monster it seems. It is used very freely and can actually describe many different processes. To be completely honest, all it really is, is saying, "Hey Company X, I'll sell your stuff for you in return for some cold hard cash." Not too shabby, eh?
The natural progression of things usually leads to people asking how they're supposed to sell this stuff. Good to see you're on the ball here, but let's do the "what" before we do the "how". What is it you would like to sell? Better yet, where do we look to find these "affiliate programs"? The best part is that most of your favorite online retailers have affiliate programs. Ebay? Of course. Zappo's? Definitely. Chuckie's Chicken Chuckle Wagon? I think so... Assignment number one: open up a new tab or window and look up your favorite retail website. Odds are pretty good that they are going to have an affiliate program. Here's where the good part starts, you will now be presented with the rules and terms of the program, so make sure you read through carefully. But the most important part is finding out what kind of percentage or commission you make from each sale. There are websites with very good rates, and some with very bad rates, so it pays to do your homework before signing on that dotted line.
We now have a product to promote, voila! This is where the fun part starts, we get to pour our heart out on why we love this product so much. What you do now is write up a great article telling people why they should make this purchase. This is where good, creative writing skills are going to help increase your income tenfold. At this point, head on over to Yahoo or Google and do a search for article directories, and then proceed to submit your article to these websites who publish it for tons of people to see. If you feel extra ambitious, submit to a bunch, increasing your chances of making money. In all seriousness, if you wanna make some cash you'll have to submit these to quite a few directories. Each directory should have a resource box for each article you submit, always remember to add your affiliate link in here.
